Past and Present

Past and Present

Last week I took an all too familiar personality test similar to the Myers-Briggs. This test gives one insight based on 16 type descriptions. The descriptions are based on a serious of questions and basic preferences.

Favorite world: Do you prefer to focus on the outer world or on your own inner world? This is called Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I).

Information: Do you prefer to focus on the basic information you take in or do you prefer to interpret and add meaning? This is called Sensing (S) or Intuition (N).

Decisions: When making decisions, do you prefer to first look at logic and consistency or first look at the people and special circumstances? This is called Thinking (T) or Feeling (F).

Structure: In dealing with the outside world, do you prefer to get things decided or do you prefer to stay open to new information and options? This is called Judging (J) or Perceiving (P).

I remember taking this same test many years ago. I know I have grown and matured greatly since those days of invincibility. I knew when I took the test this time it would be different. Guess what. It didn’t change. After thinking on this for a while, I came to the conclusion that I never truly changed my preferences for life; I just learned how to present it differently as well as picking and choosing my battles. You see, I am an extrovert. I am Sensing. I am Thinking and I am Judging. As I read through the description of the “Executive” (ESTJ), I realized  that this truly is me. At first I wanted to change it. I wanted to be an ideal person that everyone liked and got along with. I then got my head out of my ass and pulled my big girl pants up. Do Not Change who you are. If everyone was coated with icing and sprinkles, it would be a much different world. Embrace yourself. Love yourself and know you are worthy of just being you!
